Dr Amisha Modasia is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB). During her PhD at QIB, she developed a keen interest in gut-brain health, utilising in vitro cell-based models to explore how gut bacterial products influence gut-brain communication. Her current research focuses on the role of dietary fibre in alleviating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). By employing advanced colonic fermentation systems, she examines how fibre affects gas production, microbial composition and metabolite production, alongside cell-based models to explore the mechanisms underpinning gut health. A key focus of her work is understanding how the structural and chemical diversity of dietary fibres drives distinct neuroendocrine responses within the gut-brain axis. By linking fibre architecture to microbial activity and gut-derived hormonal signalling, Dr Modasia aims to develop targeted, evidence-based fibre interventions that improve quality of life for individuals with gastrointestinal disorders.
